I have spent time with most of the usual suspects from Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser and I personally have stuck with the X2. I haven't spent any personal time with the Sundara or Zeus, so I dunno. And of them all I still use the X2 more often than not. But the Z7 really asks for at least a little more power than most motherboards are built to deliver, and the Argon a lot more, to get the best out of them. I had to think about this for a little while before answering, but for something that's going to run happily straight off of motherboard power I'm failing to come up with anything that's going to be a quantum leap over the X2.įilthy casual that I am, I game for fun and immersion as well and span most genres from single-player rpg and platformers to storyline, sims and mmo's.Īside from the X2, the headphones from my personal collection that I'm happy to reach for when gaming are the T60 Argon, Sony Z7m2, and Meze Empyrean. I also live in France and I know some brands can be not as available as in other parts of the world. My budget can go up to 500€ for the headphones alone, I could buy an amp later if required. Several models came up multiple times during my search, such as the Hifiman Sundara, various Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser or the Harmonicdyne Zeus, but I have no idea how they compare to the X2. From what little tidbits I've managed to understand, I suppose it means I'm looking for open backs with a big soundstage and great imaging ? I am a total novice in the audio world. What I am searching for is an immersive headphone for non-competitive gaming purposes, I am looking for that "wow, I am IN the game" factor. I've searched through multiple subreddits but I have failed to find a definitive answer as to what to buy so far. I am currently using a Philips Fidelio X2 on my computer (no amp) and wish to upgrade.
